Authority

{Excerpt From Purposeful Parenting}

We live in a fear driven society. As such we make much of the possibility of horrors that could happen or have happened. With such potential, no one wants to step up to the plate and take responsibility because they would be blamed. This is bad because by shirking the responsibility we step away from the authority that we have and should exercise. As a parent, you have authority in the life of your child. This authority is not yours because you earned it, but because you are a parent. It is not yours because you are always right or always good, but it is always yours. You must walk in this authority. This means you do not have to trick, lie or deceive your child to get them to respond to you. You can expect it and train them to respond. You do not have to resort to manipulation in your family.

Authority lets you do what you know is right for your children regardless of what others do or are allowed to do.

We do not let our younger children watch some popular movies that our older children may watch. Authority lets you do what you know is right for your children regardless of what others do or are allowed to do. This is our home and our responsibility.
